MLW Replaces Shingle Roof with a New Metal Roof in Danielsville GA

For decades, MLW All Phase Construction & Roofing has been helping homeowners in North Georgia protect their properties with the best outdoor construction and roof repair and installation services. We’re there for our neighbors because we care, and we love making area homes look brand new!

Recently, a residential property owner in Danielsville GA wanted to renovate their home’s exterior and protect their home with a roof that would offer the best waterproofing for the longest time. Our roof experts convinced the homeowner that a metal roof was their best option for that. Metal roofing, especially standing seam roofing, is a connected sheet of material instead of pieces like shingles, so it helps water flow away from the home. The seams on the panels also direct water and snow toward the ground away from the roof ridge. Metal roofs can also be much more durable, unlike shingles, which can be ripped away by a storm.

To install the Danielsville GA home’s new roof, the MLW crew got to work fast. First our licensed, trained roofers removed the old, rotted shingles and decking, making sure that we kept the property clean. After that, we installed the underlayment for the metal roofing, and then the roof panels. After a final cleanup of the property, we were done.

MLW All Phase Construction & Roofing became Danielsville GA’s best roofing company by this kind of exceptional workmanship backed up by excellent customer service. The homeowner was very pleased with their work and thought their new metal roof made their home look brand new! They said they’d definitely recommend the MLW team to their friends and neighbors.

Leaky Roof Repair in Danielsville GA

We were recently called out to Danielsville GA to help a local homeowner with their dormer gable roof, which was leaking and worn. While most homeowners think roof repairs are cheaper, sometimes it’s best to fully remove and replace an older roof. If there’s damage to the roof’s underlayer and multiple problems in different areas, leading to repeated leaks, then replacing the roof really is the most cost-effective roofing solution.

After a thorough roof inspection, we determined that this Danielsville GA brick home needed a roof replacement. After a consultation, the homeowner had picked a cost-effective but durable architectural shingle roof in colonial slate color to match their brick home. The roof had a somewhat complex look, with a peaked main roof with gables and two dormer windows, resulting in various seams and angles for our team to cover, including roof vents.

The trained MLW roofers were up for the task and quickly got to work. First we fully removed the existing work, hauling it away and making sure the property was respected. Next, we installed ice and water shield and a new synthetic underlay to protect the home from moisture. We also installed Landmark Architectural Shingles in colonial gray, then finished the roof with a ridge vent to improve energy efficiency, as well as pipe boots with collars. Finally, we installed a new drip edge to ensure proper water flow.

The customer loved our superior service and were impressed by our fast response to their call. MLW All Phase Construction & Roofing became Danielsville GA’s trusted roofers by always treating our clients with utmost integrity and respect. Contact us today for your a roof inspection.

DIY roof repairs to minimize water damage after a storm

These 3 steps can help you minimize water damage to your home while you wait for a roof replacement or roof repair.

No time is ever a good time for your roof to begin failing. As an Athens-Clarke County homeowner, roof problems are often the cause of major headache. Whether your roof is getting moldy, springing a leak, has lost or curling shingles or is letting unwanted visitors inside, a roof with problems warrants professional help. But sometimes your roofing contractor is not able to get to your roofing problem right away, perhaps because they are booked or it is a holiday. In some cases, you may need to perform a temporary roof repair yourself until your roofers can get to your job.

1) Cover Your Roof with a Tarp

One of the quickest and most inexpensive ways you can temporarily repair your roof in an emergency is to cover the area that is involved with a plastic tarp. Find one that is intended for outdoor use and is large enough to cover the whole area that is affected. Pull the edges of the tight down tightly, smoothing it out. Nail the edges down, covering the nail heads with roofing cement to keep rain from leaking into your home.

If nailing your tarp to your roof is not something you are comfortable with, many tarps come with grommets around the edge, which can be used to tie it in place. Use strong twine or rope to tie the grommet to a sturdy location.

Also remember that it is not advisable to use bricks or weights around the edges of a tarp. It can be a hazard – especially if one falls down from the roof onto a person below.

2) Fix Loose, Curling or Missing Shingles

If you have loose, curling or missing shingles, you can temporarily adhere them back to your roof. Remember this fix is not permanent and will only last for a short time. Follow the following steps to perform this temporary repair:

  • Straighten out curling shingles by using a heat gun to soften them. Glue them down with roofing cement.
  • Loose shingles can be slid back under the bottom edge of the above row of shingles. Then you can nail them down with 6d galvanized nails. Cover nail heads with roofing cement.
  • Any cracked or worn looking joints can also use an application of roofing cement.

3) Contact a trusted local roofing contractor

Remember that the first two tips are only temporary and that reaching out to a trusted roofing contractor, like MLW Construction & Roofing, is the best way to prevent thousands of dollars worth of damage to your home.
